The blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice they say and our guest this week, Nick Meyer who runs Operations for the Melrose Umbrella Company, tells us how their company created some gorgeous cocktails to benefit the non-profit Black Women Lead (our guest from last week). Clearly, we like to keep in the fam here but seriously, take a listen as the guys talk about how they pivoted in the wake of laying off 85 people with a location in the heart of of the civil unrest that took place last year along the Melrose corridor (which also happens to be footsteps from where I live).
My takeaways from this week’s guest
- Get honest feedback from employees on how you can make a difference, and LISTEN. Then act.
- Choose to support the person doing the most good in the cause you care about. In this case, it was Shannon’s hyper local work with Black Women Lead that really appealed to Melrose Umbrella Company.
- Use IG for your R&D.
- In the to-go game, aesthetics are everything. Make sure your packaging is on point.
- Up your food program. Bespoke cocktails are still awesome – but in order to compete today you also have to serve some good grub.
